How Should Men Wash Their Underwear to Keep It Fresh?

How should men wash their underwear to keep it fresh?

Changing into a clean pair is one thing.

But what happens when the underwear you just washed still doesn’t feel completely fresh?

After writing about how often men should actually change their underwear, I started thinking about the other half of the routine: washing and drying it properly.

And it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Wash It After Wearing

Underwear sits close to the skin and can collect sweat and moisture during the day.

That is especially noticeable after exercise or on a hot, active day.

So the simple starting point is just to wash it after wearing it rather than letting used underwear pile up for too long.

Don’t Leave It Damp

One part of laundry that’s easy to overlook is what happens before the wash.

If sweaty underwear sits damp in a hamper or washing machine for a long time, it can develop an unpleasant smell.

For me, this is one of those small laundry habits that matters more than making the whole routine complicated.

Make Sure It Dries Completely

Washing is only part of the process.

Clean clothes should be dried completely before they’re folded and put away.

If underwear still feels damp, give it more time to dry instead of putting it straight into a drawer.

What If It Still Smells?

Sometimes you wash a pair normally and the odor seems to come back almost immediately.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you need a complicated laundry routine.

Try paying attention to whether the underwear is being washed according to its care instructions and dried completely.

If a particular pair repeatedly holds onto an odor even after normal washing and drying, it may simply be getting old.

Keep the Routine Simple

For me, underwear care comes down to a few simple things:

Wash it. Dry it completely. Pay attention to sweat and moisture. Replace it when it no longer feels clean or comfortable.

There doesn’t need to be a perfect laundry system.

The goal is simply to start with clean, dry underwear and make the routine easy enough to maintain.

I’ll look at another part of this question next: when is it actually time to replace an old pair of underwear?

Keep it clean. Keep it dry. Keep it simple.

Just another small part of everyday men’s wellness.
